The flower symbolism associated with the daisy is purity, innocence, loyal love, beauty, patience and simplicity. Daisies are often depicted in meadows in Medieval paintings, also known as a "flowery mead." Daisies are believed to be more than 4,000 years old and hairpins decorated with daisies were found during the excavation of the Minoan Palace on the Island of Crete. Even further back, Egyptian ceramics were decorated with daisies. Daisies were used in Mary Gardens. The daisy is also symbolically connected to St. John.
Growing up, I was surrounded, on both sides of my family, by artists of all genres. Graphic artists, painters, in oil and acrylic, photographers, musicians, quilters, sculptors. This instilled an interest and excitement for art that I was only able to pursue from time to time throughout my life. Now, recently retired, I have rediscovered that enthusiasm and have time to pursue what I love through the mediums of watercolor, alcohol ink, charcoal and photography. While I have had no formal training, I have learned a great deal from a wonderful artist and teacher at our local community college whose encouragement and love of all art has given me wings and for that I am eternally grateful.
